What is plasma skin regeneration (PSR)?
This is new technology from Rhytec using plasma to transfer energy to the treatment area without directly contacting the skin. This preserves the outer skin layer (epidermis) whilst stimulating regeneration in the skin’s deeper layers. Over time, this remodelling of skin structure leads to improvement in skin texture, skin laxity and wrinkles. Overall, the skin’s surface is renewed as well as tightened.
Is 'plasma resurfacing' the same ‘laser resurfacing?'
'Laser resurfacing' is performed by the CO2 and Erbium lasers, which are still considered the gold standard in skin resurfacing. These lasers actually remove the skin's upper layers which are then replaced with new skin, thus resulting in improvements in skin quality, laxity and texture. The healing process, however, can be traumatic, messy and most people require a considerable period of ‘down time’ before they can face the world with their new skin.
'Plasma resurfacing (PSR)' is not a laser technique, rather delivers fluid energy to the skin's deeper layers. It is, however, able to achieve similar results to laser resurfacing - but with an easier and less traumatic recovery period. The reason for this is that here the skin surface (epidermis) remains intact and acts, essentially, as its own biological dressing. This ensures faster healing.
Has this plasma technology been clinically proven?
Over the last 3 years, about 5,000 patients have been treated by several leading dermatologic surgeons in the U.S.A. Because of the success of these treatments, PSR has now been made available to specialist doctors around the world. Numerous clinical papers have been published studying PSR results, and as evidence of its success it has been FDA approved.
When will you see results and how long will it last?
You will see results soon after the treatment, but the stimulation of skin regeneration continues over time. Clinical studies have shown improvement to continue for at least 1 year after treatment.
Is PSR safe?
Plasma is not a laser. Clinical studies have shown it to be extremely safe. To date no prolonged downtime, scarring or pigment changes have been demonstrated.
How many treatments will you need?
Our doctors will recommend the appropriate treatment regimen for you.
It may vary from one to 4 treatments depending on your skin condition and the level of improvement you are seeking.
When will I be able to go back to work? What can I expect?
Depending on the energy used, the healing time will vary. At low energy levels, skin redness and flaking is seen which sheds in 2 to 3 days. At higher energy levels the skin develops a bronzed outer skin layer that may take 5 to 10 days to regenerate.
