PERCUTANEOUS COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY (CIT)
Also referred to as Roll-CIT™ , this treatment refers to a cutaneous procedure where a needle rolling hand piece is passed over the skin. The needles penetrate deep into the dermis of the skin where it triggers a cascade of factors to stimulate new collagen production and remodelling of dermal tissues.
The collagen induction is further enhanced when vitamin A and C are applied immediately after the procedure as the channels created by the needling allow greater delivery of these vitamins into the dermis. Vitamin A and C are important antioxidants and essential in the process of collagen synthesis, collagen repair and skin remodelling. For best results it is recommended patients start using therapeutic doses of vitamin A and C skin care products for at least 1 month before treatment and continue after the Roll-CIT™ treatment.
The Roll-CIT™ can be an alternative to laser resurfacing in patients not suitable for laser treatment or wishing to have a less invasive procedure with less risks.
Roll-CIT™ can be used to treat:
The procedure can be done in-office under local anaesthetic. Light sedation and analgesics can be added, if necessary.
Healing and recovery takes about 5-7 days before the patient can return to work.
The skin’s sun sensitivity is not altered afterwards.
Results generally start to be seen after about 6 weeks and can continue for up to 12 months.
Further, stimulation of collagen production can be achieved by adding non-ablative laser therapy such as pulsed dye laser, YAG laser and other lasers, after the Roll-CIT™ procedure.
Repeating the Roll-CIT™ procedure may be necessary in patients with more severe conditions or whose immune systems exhibit slow collagen induction response.
